Unhappy Transmission blew up 1998 C230

Hi

My 1998 C230's transmission had a sudden and catastrophic transmission failure. My mechanic said the planetary gears fell apart. It now has 150K miles on it. Anybody else have this trouble? I thought Mercedes' ran forever.... It's still the best car I ever had.

I wish they did! Have you checked into the cost of a transmission rebuild?

The hardware failure she described makes a rebuild impractical. A rebuilt unit from a dealer or a good used one are the best options.

Ron is correct...I went with a different rebuilt transmission. I don't want to talk about the cost, we'll just say it's going to be a skinny Christmas. We're not sure they are going to accept the core on the old one yet.

I'll keep it for now, but when should I sell this car? What else can I expect from it?
