Sorry, I don't think I gave enough background. I've already met with the dealership Service Manager. I had him grab the parts pulled off my car, so we could see if the HB on my car had the serial number on it matching the two numbers listed in the recall. It did. I then asked him to take it to their factory rep., which he did, but they told me that b/c my chassis number was not listed in the recall chassis range affected, I was SOL.
What's sticking in my craw is that nobody can give me any sort of logical reason as to how my chasis number has anything to do with the failure of the knowingly defective HB on my car. Frankly, if there is a logical explanation as to why this was a fluke, I'll walk away.
The recall affected over 350,000 cars, so it's entirely possible (and likely) that the recall was too narrow in its scope (my car's failure is evidence of that). While MBUSA my legally not have to do anything, based upon the evidence, they should step up and provide a remedy, like they've done for many others with the same problem.
