Rough Idle CLK430??

I have a 2000 CLK430 with 95,000 miles on it. When I am sitting at a stop light I feel the car shuttering/shaking. My check engine light does not come on. I thought it might be my spark plugs so I just paid $1,000 at the dealership to have my plugs and fuel filter changed. The car still shutters/shakes at stop lights??? Does anyone have any idea what this could be?? I hope its not a transmission problem.....

i'm sorry but i almost spilled my drink all over my keyboard when you said $1000 for spark plugs and a fuel filter. fuel filter is less than $30 and spark plugs are $2 each..

maybe next time you go to that dealership, might as well pull down your pants and ask them to a$$-r@pe you!! highway robbery..

Don't feel too bad. On a CLK430 (an M113 engine), OEM plugs are Bosch F8DPP33. Thats the only plug a dealer will install and they retail for $17.95 each, although most parts suppliers will sell them for $8 each. The fuel filter retails for $116 and change, but can be bought at most supply houses for $45. The good news is, if those were the original plugs and filter, they were due to be changed.

The engine vibration may be the motor mounts. When they go out, vibration is the most common complaint. They retail at the dealer for $100 per side plus installation. Supply houses usually sell these for about $90.

$1000?!! for plugs? did you get the wires changed as well? the stealership here quoted $750 for a plugs/wires/labor.

I bought the OEM Bosch plugs online for $7/ea and had the dealer change it for me at 3 hrs labor....came out to $400 for everything

If the $1K is for the 100,000 mile service, that will include a lot more than plugs and a fuel filter.

hope u got the rough idle issue solved.

FYI, some other possible things that can cause rough idle:

1. bad spark plugs
2. bad Mass Air Meter
3. bad engine mounts
4. bad oxygen sensors
5. vacuum/air leak on vacuum lines
6. clogged fuel filter
7. bad CPS sensor
8. bad fuel pressure regulator
9. bad ignition cap/rotor

could be others

That's what I was thinking also. For example, a "B" service is due about then, and I know at least one dealer here that just advised me to have the transmission fluid/filter changed at 100k.

MDCLK430, are you sure that is all they did (plugs and fuel filter) or did you simply not provide us with a complete itemization?

Also, I don't think that your shuttering/shaking has anything to do with the transmission, but that is a pretty expensive overhaul or replacement.
