As far as I know, the only way to buy a CPO vehicle from anyone other than a franchised MB dealer is to buy one from an individual owner who has one. These CPO warranties are transferrable owner-to-owner (not back to a dealership - they terminate immediately if you trade one in). I don't know if MB limits the number of times this can happen.
She probably got a (FREE is debatable since they can always work the value into the price of the car) 12-month, 100,000 miles on her 500SL. I have read most of the fine print, and it is not quite bumper-to-bumper either. However, it seems to include most everything that could cost you a lot of money. Understandably, wiper blades, brake pads/rotors, tires, etc. are not covered.
Lastly, she can take her car to any franchised dealership for the warranty repairs.
