CLK 430 Check Engine Codes

I have a 2001 CLK 430 and the Check Engine light came on. I read the codes and they are 2017 and 2018 [Self-adaptation of mixture formation right bank of cylinders...etc] and 2086 and 2087 [again, self-adaptation of mixture formation left bank of cylinders, left side]. What, specifically, do these codes mean and what repairs do they entail?

Thanks so much for any help.

Welcome to the maze of codes
My son had 10 error codes on his ML320 with all kind of misfiring and fuel trims.
It was all triggered by MAF going bad.
Hopefully your situation is as easy.

Mass Air Flow Sensor

Yeah He Is Right It's The Mass Air Flow Sensor. When The Sensor Reads Incorrectly The Engine Will Add To Much Fuel Over The Permisible Limit And That Is When You Get Your Self Adaptaion Codes. There Is A Certain Perameter For The Adaptation Values And If They Go To High Or Low Then It Will Cause That Fault Code...hope This Helps

I am not familiar with these codes, but if it is the MAF get some CRC Mass Airflow Sensor Cleaner and spray the wire in the sensor. Do a search for "CRC MAS Cleaner" or "CRC Mass Airflow Sensor Cleaner" on either the R170 forum or w163 forum if you want more details or pm me.

Thanks for all your help. Where exactly is the MAF located on a clk 430? I'm pretty handy with auto work, but under that hood it's a whole new world.

1. Remove the snorkels that go from the front grill area to your intake housing. These simply snap off and out.

2: Lift your engine cover off of your engine. There are 4 clips holding your cover down. Simply just pull up and they will detach.

3: On the back portion of your intake (behind the engine, where your intake housing connects to the engine, you will see the MAF sensor. Using a flat head screwdriver, unclip the metal clip on the back of the MAF and then unclip the plastic clips on the front.
4: Unplug the wire on the right and place it somewhere where you will find it again. Then gently pull the MAF out of it’s place and reverse the directions to put it back together.

I copied and pasted the above. Once you have the MAF out, remove the sensor from the housing. You might need torx security bits. Spray the wire with CRC MAF cleaner-alot and from multiple angles.

Check your air filter while you are at it. Might need to be replaced.
