The new GLK will debut in late 2007 and will go on sale at the begining in 2008. It will be built on the 4Matic-Plattform of the new C-Class. The new GLK will compete directly with the BMW X3 and Toyota RAV4.
The GLK will feature the next dimensions: wheel base of approximately 2.75 meters, length of 4.50 meters, width of about 1.90 meters, height of nearly 1.70 meters.
The new SUV will be offered with a range of four engines: GLK 220 CDI with an output of 190 hp, 2WD GLK 280 powered by a V6 engine with an output of 231 hp, 2/4WD GLK 350 powered by a V6 engine with an output of 272 hp and 4WD GLK 320 CDI with an output of 224 HP.
Will GLK be a towable?
RAV4-s are not only loved for its nice design and affordable entrance to off-roading capabilities, but lot of motorhome owners love to use them as a toad.
Light weigh is positive here.
BMW-s are not towable and have never seen X3, or X5 behind motorhome.
I dont know if its compleltly worthless, I do think the MB line-up is getting a little too bast though. If it does have RV towability that would be pretty neat though. I dont know what to say about the GL-class though. I think they should focous this new SUV on being a little bit more offroadable, because honestly I dont see the point in buying in SUV if you arnt going to use its features to some advantage, whether it be towing or...some...even if minor offroad ability.
And I cant see how it would compete with a Rav4 since the BMW and Mercedes Benz are luxury SUV's and the Rav4 has never really been too impressive in my mind...

ML-s are not that much of luxury automobiles as well, yet have lot of enthusiasts.
I believe if the new, MB compact SUV wold have comparable price (like ML does) there would be huge market for it.
Evidently MB Smarts sell very well, whenever they are available. As well as Mini.
I don't like it. That rear blind spot is waaay to big. Fit and finish is horrible. Massive creases in doors, the fuel door is crooked and the tinting on the rear glass is half arsed.
