That gear ratio allows another calculation.
When I was able to drive 115 mph on 3 rd gear at about 6200 rpm, the same rpm on 5-th would make 1.486/0.83x 115= 205 mph.
Any more questions?

Yes. According to the charts at the bottom.

What would the top speed of the Phaeton W12 theoretically be? Redline is 6k rpm.

Now you are going into top-end aerodynamics.
You might know, that air drag goes with square of speed?
Meaning that it is 4 times higher at 200 mph, than at 100mph.
What it would make at 300 mph?
This way, or another the tire ratings would be the first limit after hammering the governor.
It was a good dream after-all

Teeheehee........good dreams we have.

In addition to the aerodynamics equation.....add to the fact the aerodynamic properties of the ML and drag coefficient.

From what I heard 130 setup is only for sport cars. E320 is 125 mph and sells with V-rated tires.
In 80's cars had "governed" speedometers. Lot of Corvettes and other cars had 80 mph speedometer, but no engine governor. We drove them by tachometer.
correct! the speedo in our 240GL goes upto 85 MPG... the car itself could easily do 100 - 110 MPH, even after being on the road for 26 years. Quite a weird sight for a European kid that grew up with those optimistic speedos (especially the ones in GM cars showing 220 km/h (135 MPH) for a 60 BHP Astra).

That's even more impressive than the 0-1001 HP gauge on the Bugatti Veyron 16.4!!

That's what you get driving high-performance cars.
In our "new" 134 HP E300 I push to redline all the time. Than I think some of those horses after running 226,000 miles are already dead.
