I made my decision based on the exclusions. And, like Kajtec1, throwing a rod is at the bottom of my list too. The Benz is a wonderful car, but it is complicated beyond comprehension, with many systems tied together. My 2000 S500 had a great cup holder. Half the console lid flipped up and there were spots for stereo starbucks. The new one has a cupholder in the front of the console that looks like it was the winner in the "Let's design the world's most comlicated cupholder" contest.
Here's what the warranty won't fix: Audio speakers, batteries, body panels, body seals, bumpers, cables, carpeting, chassis, clamps, nuts and bolts unless required with a covered repair, convertible tops and their mechanisms, exhaust and emission systems componenets, gasoline fuel injectors that do not have an electrical failure, glass, insulation, hoses, lines and fittings,(except brake lines and fittings) mirrors, manual clutch, paint, passenger restraint systems, seats, secondary ignition components, soft trim or moldings, suspension springs telephones, torsion bars, upholstery, weather stripping, lug nuts and studs, wheels and wheel covers, internet computer, navigation system (unless coverage "F" is selected) heads up display and night vision systems.. It also excludes normal maintenance items : Al;ignments, adjustments, calibratins, cleaning, fluids and refirgerants uness as a art of a covered repair, fuses, lights, bulbs, lenses, accessory drive belts, brake pads and shoies, brake drums and rotors, shock absobers and struts, timing belts and wiper blades.
That's a pretty big list of things that ae excluded. But it does NOT exclude wiring harnesses, computers, window motors, the suspension pump and computer, brake calipers, instruments etc.
Again, I'm not worried about the powertrain components. No one rebuilds engines anymore. They outlast the body. The primary failures are electrical.
If the doors don't close themselves, you're going to spend a grand to fix it. I would not buy an extended waranty on a Camry. But I will buy one on something this complex.
I tried a couple dealers on the Starmark warranty. It can only be gotten from a Benz dealer as a part of the purchase of a used vehicle. If anybody knows how I can get one, please post it
