Wrecked 300SD, suggestions on a new car

Hello,

I recently graduated from college, and moved to Northern Virginia/ DC Metro area for work. My favorite car had always been my 126 300SD, but I left that at home and took a gas Volvo when I moved up here (need more power when merging into massive traffic around here). Anyways, my Mother was driving my car around my home town when she ran into the back of an SUV, doing more damage than the car was worth.

Long story short, she needs her Volvo back for a daily driver (430 Convertible isn't her idea of a winter vehicle). So now its time for me to buy a new (used) car.

After growing up with two 126s, I am really partial to the MB brand, but am pretty nervous about getting into a newer benz based on their quality issues. I notice the w211's are coming down in price now that the first gen 2003's are coming off their leases, so I'm pretty interested in those. I basically have three MB's that i'd be actively considering to purchase, and those are the :

W210 2000-2002
W211 2003
W208 2000-2002
Non MB
E39 BMW 5 Series 2001-2003
Acura TL 2004
Infiniti G35 2003-2004

Any recommendations about those models or any others you think I should be considering? I'm thinking about a 22-23 K limit (I know, squeezing in some pretty recent models in a cheap price range...)

Thanks in Advance

Personally I would avoid the W210 Mercedes, they had the weak spring perch problem, and I think there is a recall for that problem, and frankly the 2000-2005 model years were generally among the WORST for Mercedes models as far as build quality was performed

Of your list, I would applaud your choice of a good E39 BMW. They look great, handle and ride beautifully, generally no major problems as from your years specified, they are well into their model run and not fraught with problems. The 525i is just a little to leisurely, so I would personally tend towards the 530i.

Just about all of them are out of warranty though by now....

Then again the 540ia sport is full out perfomance, almost into M5 territory. Probably cost too much though for a good used one.

I love my 210 wagon the best from several MB cars I used/own.
Perch problem? I have finally to crawl under those cars and see it, but I believe it exist only on "salt on the road" climates?
They are not as cheap as 123 body I used to drive, but as usually in the life, we want something better. It is only the money we spend.

Thanks for the feedback. I'd like to hear from as many MB owners as possible, could you suggest a different forum on this site that I might recieve more input (both negative and positive, I trust MB owners for their honest opinion).

As much as I appreciate the E39 530i (handling), I just don't believe it would have enough power to really wow me...plus, the looks are kinda anonymous (interior & exterior)...

Thanks in advance

I would go for either the TL or 5-Series. But that's just me.

The 5-Series is, well, a BMW. The TL, well, has some tranny issues I think.

I wasn't aware of any Tranny issues on the TL, could you please elaborate? A good friend of mine has one, and it seems like a great car, but his is a lease with only 30 K.....

You might do better searching in an Acura forum.

Get a w124! If you need space, get a TE, they are awesome, I have one now. If you only need a sedan, get a E400 or E420. I had an 400E and it was amazing! So much power and I got 26mpg on the highway doing 80! If you are used to the quality of the w126, which is hard to beat, get a w124. Trust me, my mom, my brother and myself own one in sedan, coupe and wagons respectively. Damn fine benz.

Bimmers... hahahah, stay with the star and don't be a prick.
