Mercedes will unveil a completly re-desingned E-Class by the end of 2008 or the begining of 2009. The new model will be an elegant and refined sedan, but bigger, more dynamic and aggresive.
The 2009 E-Class will be powered by an updated version of the 1.8 Kompressor, while the AMG version will feature a 6.3 liter V8 engine with an output of 541 hp. There are no words about a diesel version, but a hybrid version of the car it is very posible, and will be a colaboration with GM and BMW.
theres been more and more of these posts on this forum ... I guess people are starting to look past the current e-series now...6 years is a long time for a car to be in the market !

Uhhh........6-8 years is the norm for German automakers.

W211s have only been available since 2003, so the re-designed E-Class of 2007 makes just 5 years. I was told by my dealer that 2009 is the year for a completely new model.
Maybe Daimler will eventually follow the other manufacturers, but most german car makers find a good design and stay with it for a number of years. Once they do re-design a particular model it's a pretty radical departure from its predecessor. Look at the new S-Class for example: they ran with the other basic design from 2000-2006, then changed it quite a bit for 2007.
By the way, I'm a little confused about the W140s and the change to W220. Is there some overlap of the 1999 model years, or are all '99s W140 and all '00s W220?

The German automakers keep it at around 6-8 years because they design such great vehicles. Other companies tend to redesign at 4-6 years because the owners keep wanting more because it's not designed well enough.
I believe there is some overlap between the W140 and W220. Weird isn't it.

My thoughts exactly on your 1st point.
Yes, it is weird - I thought there might be some overlap too, but I have never looked any further. I'll do that when I have a little more time.
the new MB's starting with the S class redesigns loook to japanese to me. The last time a Mercedes or BMW has that many curves, wheel wells was never. It loooks like an infiniti crossed with a lexus. Anyway, they should redesigned it back to the old classic timeless designs. pre 2000. Bruno was MB's best designer, the current guy must have been an ex-japanese designer...I think they hired him from Lexus's Bland Styling Inc department..

Eh? Using your logic and explanation....explain how this came to be:
