two-door passenger seat tilted forward and won't go back
I have a 1999 two-door convertible (C320, I think). On either front seat, there is a lever you lift, then you can tilt the seatback forward to admit passengers into the back seats. At the same time, a motor slides the entire seat forward to facilitate entry.
Here's the problem: the seatback has been tilted forward, but now lifting the lever does not allow me to push the seatback back. It simply won't move back. And now I can lift this lever with very little resistance. When it was working, it took a bit of strength to lift the lever - not much, but now the lever goes up with almost no resistance.
The electrical door panel switches still work fine.
Any idea what the problem is? To me, it seems like something used to be attached to the end of that lever inside the seat, and it somehow became disconnected. Can I get in there to have a look myself, or should I take it to the dealer? Is there some way to manually return the seatback to its normal position so a passenger can ride in the car?
Thanks in advance for your help.
