Steering Types

Does any body know why MB uses rack and pin steering instead of the recirculating ball steerring like BMW, as it seems to increase performance ?

MB uses rack and pinion because from a performance standpoint, recirculating ball is crap. Although I have to admit, my CLK uses the [crap] recirculating ball design.

Rack & pinion is better. Recirculating ball has a lot of problems.

The ML uses rack-and-pinion with power assist and integral hydraulic damper. The regular MLs are engine speed sensitive, whereas the ML55s are road-speed sensitive.

Surely you won't mind explaining what a hydraulic damper does and why its being integral is significant.

I copy & pasted from MBUSA.com because I wasn't sure what the ML had.

I'm a little confused. Did you take my post personally/offensively? The second half was directed to dahappybanana to asked the question.

The only part that I responded to you was the "Right......................" part.
