ADVICE on CLK500 Convertible Service FSS

Hello all,

Wondering if anyone knows about the service intervals for a 2005 CLK500A cabriolet. The car has 8000 miles on it and is requesting the dreaded service "B". Service "A" was performed a month after ownership with about 1500 miles on it. Is this normal? I have had several MB's before this one and never had a service "B" as I usually put little miles on them and swap them out when my lease is up. Is the service schedule different for a convertible? Seems a bit premature, especially based on my light driving.

My local dealer, where I do not obtain my cars because they are blatant thieves, claims this is normal. But given their record of thievery, I do not trust them.

If it comes down to getting an oil change, Is there a procedure or a specific place I can get the FSS reset?

It would seem from the MB info below that a Service B for you is premature, and the indicator is in error.

For Model Year 2005 vehicles The Mercedes-Benz Maintenance Plan(1) makes caring for your 2005 Mercedes easier than ever. The service intervals are fixed and predictable - every 13,000 miles or one year for most vehicles(2). Your car will even remind you - about one month before it's due.

Your dealer provides a Service Welcome that includes a first visit (between 1,000 and 3,000 miles) and your first tire rotation (before 6,500 miles) at no charge*.

* See your local MB Dealer for details.

(1) The Flexible Service System and included Mercedes-Benz Maintenance Commitment have been discontinued as of model year 2005.

(2) Whichever comes first. Requires use of 229.5-spec oil and high-performance fleece oil filter. Every 10,000 miles on V-12 and AMG models. Driver is responsible for monitoring fluid levels and tire pressures between service visits. On E-Class models, see Maintenance Booklet for additional maintenance service types.

Your Service Interval was probably not reset when the car was last serviced. On my car the interval can be reset by scrolling down the instrument cluster menu to the Milage, Maintance, and Service screen and clicking to the Service screen where I can pust the Reset button and the miles goes to 10,000--probably 13,000 on your car.

Don't believe everything you think

The reset procedure as well as the various items done at each service are in your owner's manual packet.
