What year is your car? Most base coats for metallic colors were either silver or light gold. The metallic particles also varied in shape depending on the color coat to be used. Some are square while others might be triangular or rarely star shaped. This seems to only occur on German metallic finishes though and is one reason (besides why metallic paint costs so much more) the depth and shade of the color and its reflective properties change depending on the angle the light hits it. USA paint is usually random illregular shapes and the particles may not always be metallic.
Additionally most Mercedes built after late in 2003 have a nano particle ceramic clear coat. If your paint guy doesn't know anything about what I have mentioned I would strongly suggest finding another person to handle the paint. I would have no confidence in letting the paint guy learn anything that complicated while using your car as as a guinea pig. If they mismatch on the base coat the colors, IF they match, will only match under the exact same lighting conditions found in the paint booth.

Potato Chip, custom canuter valve, low-friction muffler bearings, synthetic turn signal fluid, Hi-Definition Progressive Scan Wiper Blades.
Law-makers are supposed to regulate in the interest of the public as opposed to regulating in the interest of the regulated party.
If it says Pratt and Whitney on the outside it better say Martin Baker on the inside.
