The idea of the smart key is that one cannot get the engine running without the correct key. I guess you do not want to leave the key in place and have a remote starting device turning the key (not a good idea on a KG car at least).

My main point of replying though was to mention that in my home country it is illegal to let the engine run on idle for more than 2 minutes (in traffic or not). Except if the temperature is, I think, below -15 degrees Celsius, then max 4 minutes. This is for the environment, to reduce pollution. The popularity of remote starting devices in the US and Canada is not seen too well, especially after suing car manufacturers about environmental issues.

I had a remote starter installed on a 1998 E430. It worked for a while and then , according to the MB service advisor, it completely screwed up the ECU to the point where the car would not even run. The dealer had the remote starter removed and reflashed the ECU and all was well. I would check it out before you havbe it done.

I do not recall the brand. The starter had to be removed and the ECU reflashed. The remote went back to the installer.

hey just seeing if theres an update on this, did you install remote start? I have a 98 e320 and I'm considering doing the same thing, no problems, just want the feature. I talked to a mechanic about having it done by a pro and he said the wires might burn out and wouldn't do it, but i haven't heard of this problem in any of my (five months) of research.
