Red face C180 tilt steering wheel

Hi there

I'm new to this site and new to Mercedes-Benz cars, I just bought a 1994 C180 Elegance.

This will sound a bit silly, but I cannot figure out how to tilt the steering wheel and the seller assured me the steering wheel can be tilted. I am over six feet tall and built with it and even though I have the seat as low as it can go, it is awkard getting in and out of the drivers seat because of the steering wheel.

How do I tilt it, I looked around the column, underneath, etc and can find nothing that allows me to do anything with the column.

To be honest, I am beginning to doubt it can tilt, if someone can put me right I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks

A

I have a 97 C 230 and a 86 190D and neither have a tilt wheel. Believe it or not, it was an option. Stupid I know, but unless completely loaded up, it was not offered standard. The only place it would be is by the parking brake release lever, but if it's not there, you may not have the option. You can check at the dealer too.

It is annoying lol. I don't know if it can be installed. It would probably mean taking apart the dash to get at the column though. The airbag may pose a problem too.

In the US, it wasn't until 1996 that a "telescoping" steering column was offered as part of a W202 (C-Class) option package, C4 or C6. While it provided front and back movement, there was no "tilt."
