Dealer service:BG Fuel/Air Induction System Clean-up Service

Has anyone done this? The dealership quoted me close to $200. I dont see how it is any better than a $5 bottle of Techron Chevron.

Doesn't Chevron sell the gasoline with cleaner in it already?
Where did you fill up? I usually fill up at cheapest stations and never had dirty injectors.

Ages ago when I was a tech (non-MB), this was a real service that made a noticeable difference. However, fuel quality has improved dramatically since then (late 1970’s). Currently, it’s been my experience that if good quality fuel is used (what’s commonly called Top Tier gasoline), an injector service isn’t needed for several hundred thousand miles. Lower tier fuel will work just fine in a car. But the long term results of using lower tier fuels are lousy fuel injector spray patterns, which is what the injector service is supposed to clear up. A bad injector spray pattern can result in lowered fuel economy, marginally reduced power levels, some cylinders running rich, while others run lean, reduced O2 sensor life, and reduced catalytic converter life. I’m sure there are other consequences, but those are the ones that immediately come to mind.
