Tumble Flaps, Tornado Air & Vortex Booster....

Hi, I am not sure if this has been disscused much on here before.

There are these metal rings you can put inside your cars intake air system.
It is supposed to help with fuel economy, and some improved performance.
I have seen them for around $50.

I think these things work somewhat, because Mercedes uses them in there newer models, they call them Tumble Flaps. Now the location the place them is differant than where these afterarket ones go.

Does anyone have any experience with these to offer?

Here are some sites:

Tornado Airs site http://www.tornadoair.com

Vortex Booster I dont have a site for that but same idea as tornado, but I think it uses two of these pieces.

The site that mentions mercedes Tumble Flaps http://www.mercedes-benz.ca/index.cf...ID=176&id=4400

Any info would be great. Thanks

Popular Science did a review of these devices. (I'm too lazy to find a link right now.) The results were universal... none of these devices boosts performance in any way, and some can decrease efficiency and power output.

The tumble flaps are specifically designed for that engine's air intake and they change the airflow based on volume and speed of the air in the system at the time. Substantially more sophisticated than the aftermarket add-ons.

I bought (what they call VORTEX generator) to use in my W210 (because I used to drive 100 miles/day to save gas), installed im my car for 1 month : there is NO increase in MPG, I can NOT feel any more HP increase (advertise 5-10 HP increase), it is a piece of junk (it decrease the MPG in you are in stop & go traffic). I used to get 15-16 MPG, it drop to 12-13 MPG when stop & go on the freeway .I took it out to trash. That's my experience. Regards.

I agree with you both.
I think it could work, but only how mercedes does it with the way they utilize other factors involved.
Thanks guy.

If anyone else has comments keep em coming.
