Question Rebuilt Tranny or New from Mercedes???

The tranny on my W140 ('95 S500) is shot.

A new tranny & torque converter from the local MB Dealer will set me back $5000.
I can get a rebuilt with a 2 year warranty for about half that. However, I have heard that the rebuilt can be a lot of trouble in terms of their reliability.

Does any one have a pro or con experiences on this? I'm all ears. Thanks!

I'd save the $2500 and give it nary a second thought, but that's just me. Of course, the vendor choice might make a difference as well...

Rebuilt
You should check into the 5 speed from a newer year.
my 98 420 uses 722.622 box.

Will it work? Will it 'fit'. I'd need a new shift console, as well. Correct?
