Was showing Service B due in 100 miles. After the reset it shows 10,000 for next Service A.
Had a client that did a lot of work himself, got the oil changed by whom he deemed fit to change it. Car was a 2000 S 500. Well, at about 76,000 miles, he scorched the number 7 cylinder. A more than $17,000 dollar mistake.
MB engines (112/113, etc) have no "crosshatch" in the cylinder bores, that means oil does not hang around after the car has shut down like it used to. Another reason why synthetic oil should be used, along with the proper filling capacity and service intervals.
Yes, you can do the service A and B yourself, but the REAL reason for the A-H services is to CATCH things BEFORE they go wrong. To pull the VIN, check for campaigns, and or recalls (most dealers do not do this). The MB FSS system was built for those who do not like to worry about their car. The MB was meant for an ELITE status. It is true, dealers have take advantage of the (never worry crowd) ELITE.
But as these vehicles have progressed, certain services need certain training and or knowledge of the vehicle.
For instance, SBC vehicles: You need the SDS and an electronic pressure bleeder to change the brake fluid.
For instance: Fuel filter on the 211, is part of the fuel pump, have fun changing that if you have no experience.
Yes, routine maintenace can be done by the DIY, but as the MB line progresses, some experience will be needed to get even the most routine thing done.
There is no substitute for experience, and there is no substitute for a good running MB....
Be an ELITE, have the service come to you. I can't see paying $550.00+ for a service "B" IF I have to drive to the service center, wait for a advisor, get a rental car, put miles on MY car, fight traffic to get back to my car.....
No traffic, work from home, or stay at work... No rental car, no advisor, just book your appointment and away it goes, for the average cost of under dealer rate. Most times the cost is about the same or less, but look a the time you save, the headache you do not have, and abililty to build a relationship with the person who makes it happen.... The tech. Not the person who TELLS you WHAT is about to happen and relays messages.
