It seems like the A/B Service pricing is a very big issue everywhere on this site. The pricing is exceptionally high at dealers and I see nothing wrong with doing the service yourself. It is not complicated at all. It does take about 2- 2 1/2 hours to do the services yourself so the time charged at dealers sounds right. The big issue with Mercedes is that they feel that if you own one you have alot of money. True for the S class but not so true for the C- class. A co-worker owns a Benz and he took it in for the 100K service and felt that the $1800 service fee is not over the top. Of course he is in a stronger financial situation then me. I do feel that if you plan on keeping the vehicle for a year or two and then getting rid of it dealer service records would be important, but if you plan on keeping the vehicle for a long time (100K+ miles) the shape of the vehicle at the time of sale will prove it was well mantained.
I do have one question: Will you buy another Mercedes again after knowing about all the outragous service costs?
This is the one answer Mercedes Benz needs to be looking at.
I probably will buy a Lexus next time. Those I know that own one dont seem to feel the service fees are out of whack. Personally I will look into those more deeply when the time comes.
