124 E320 throttle

I have just purchased a ’94 E320 coupé and love it, but am finding it hard to get used to the very stiff accelerator pedal. Are they all like this, and can anything be done about it?

Me too!!

I didn't realize this was a chronic problem, or are we the only two? Mine seems to have a bit of play (1/2") at idle then a really stiff push. The engine surges, not fun if you're trying to back into a parking spot. The rest of the travel is normal.

Lots of lube on the throttle cable?

Looks like no answers. I find this the main area I don't like with my w210, the lenght of throttle travel and dead initial area. After driving Japanese cars I am used to light responsive throtles. It's a nuisance when I need to get fast response, eg, while doing a 3 point turn etc.

same here with my '93 W201!
there's a totally dead, soft-touch area at the top, and the engine is
relatively docile at low revs - and then the power comes in and can
really surprise you, especially with an Auto trans in traffic.

tbh, when parking, my right foot is off the pedal - i just let the car creep
into position in D.

took me quite some time to get used to it, but it's now got to the point where i can
change down gears by 'feathering' the throttle, not resorting to kickdown.
