I was just thinking about posting this question.

Not in order of preference:

1. 1995 E31 BMW 850CSi Euro: simply because it's my dream car and my all time favorite. Could be driven daily or as a weekend

2. 2007 Ferrari 612 Scaglietti for the weekends and scenic routes through the mountains

3. 2007 Audi S8 as my daily driver and family hauler

4. Bugatti Veyron 16.4, just to show off and have the greatest freaken time ever

5. 2003-2005 Range Rover HSE - wife's car, and for the trails when I feel like it and when the going gets rough

6. 1995 W124 E500 - The other daily/family hauler

This is assuming that I make babies with a very beautiful female and have a kick ass salary.

Those 3 years gave me a lot of practice how to use the available horsepower to full extend.
You know what steep downgrade means? "Acceleration time".
Yes, I treated the gas pedal on my VW diesel like an on/off switch. My 1980 had 50HP. Used Bilsteins and Pirelli P600 so I don't have to slow down around the corners. I headed up the west bound I70 grade out of Denver towards the Eisenhower Tunnel. The car was crawling along at 15MPH in 2nd gear so I thought it was broke. I had this car for 20 years. While I waited 3 months for my 2001 Pruis, I waited one year for this 1980 VW during that gas crisis.

I had a Fiat 131, a Peugeot 404 and a Cadillac Calais at the same time.

I would not change my current brand mix too much.

2007 Toyota Prius
2007 Lexus G430
2007 Infiniti M45
2007 SLK55
2007 Audi S4
2007 GMC Yukon

In Silicon Valley, exotic car doesn't mean too much since there will always be someone who will out spend you. 6 car garages mean a lot here. May be same in L.A.

Did you turn off AC for better acceleration and on passing too?
I don't understand how people want sport cars in USA? The roads here are so bad and speed limits so low. Driving 120 mph in western Europe I was dreaming about Porsche. Later in California I could afford one. The Porsche gave so bumpy ride, that I was avoiding driving over a toothpick, not to mention big holes we have on our freeways. With 55 mph speed limit at the time the performance of the car was useless, with some advantages on cornering.
I switched back to Volkswagen in just few months.

Yes the roads and the cars here are terrible. I drive my parents Chrysler van, and it handles like crap on the onramp going 40. We test drive a 1986 MB and it handles like a dream at 45 on the onramp. What strikes me is the AutoBahn has fewer road deaths than the US highway system. I dream of the day when there will be an American AutoBahn, but I know theres almost no chance of it happening.

Ha, I collected two tickets [both 20 over] from the mighty diesel. And best mileage was somewhere around 58 highway at 70mph across New Mexico.

I ended up giving it to my ex wife when it had 250,000 miles on it.
