Driver's memory seat problem

Car: CLK 320 Elegance Year 2000 43,000 miles

Yesterday the driver's memory seat stopped moving forwards and backwards with no prior warning.
All other motorised movements are possible except forwards/backwards.

When pressing the toggle switch a clicking noise under the seat can be heard hence the fuse must be OK
There are no obstructions- coins mats etc. under the seat.

My business partner had the same problem on his CLK 320 at approx the same mileage but his was sorted out under warranty.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Is the seat motor totally dead or is it another problem?

It may be nothing to do with your problem - but I have noticed that the relevant front seat must be locked firmly back before the forward/back seat motor will activate. Maybe this detector switch is not working.

check the fuse. This was a common problem for the passenger seat and the fuse for that was in the trunk.

Memory seat

Mine started to move by itself, seat steering wheel up down back and forth! Most embarassing at stop lights. Turned out to be a blown fuse.

I have a 2002 CLK 320 with 40,000+ miles that has just shown the same problem. The drivers seat will not move forward or backward. It will elevate and the seat back will incline/recline and the head rest will move. I have checked all the fuses in othe the trunk and under the hood.
Does anyone know if there is a release somewhere that will allow the seat to be moved manually? I would like to remove the seat, but I can't get to the bolts under the front of the seat. The bolts holding down the back of the rails I can get to and remove, but I can't get to the front bolts.

This will sound like a dumb question at first but do you also have a problem with the windows not going up and down correctly in auto lift mode or the sunroof having a mind of its own?

All of those problems started about the same time on my CLK. With the window issue the dealer would check the programming, note that it was programmed for a SEDAN, reprogram it for the COUPE and send me away. A month later, same problem would start, same diagnosis, same observation by service, interjected comment from owner of car, reprogram. Repeat X3. Similar with both sunroof and seats.

Wife strongly urged dealer to buy back car rather than have it delivered to the middle of their showroom at an inopportune moment by me.

I had the same problem with my son's BMW seat. The electric motor died and it was stuck in a position where you can't reach the bolt that hols the seat to the floor. I was able to move the seat by turning the cable attached to the motor manually. It took a lot of turns to move the seat a few millimiters. But, I was able to move it to expose the bolt and fit a socket.

Hope this helps.
