mercedes and BMw have a long history, and tradition.. benz was making w124s probably the best post war sedan ever built. when Lexus barely existed in the 90s, still in its diapers COPYING every single car Mercedes made.

In the rich part of New York where I work, almost every one drives a Benz . these are people who care about image. NOT one ,drives LEXUS.

Even if lexus copies the 3 series performance bit for bit and for lesser money, I still wouldn't be able to get out my check. Why ? You can't copy a reputation.

Actually, the worst thing about Lexus is that it's all just a smokescreen. Most of the Lexus models are just called "Lexus" for the US (and select European) markets. They are Toyotas everywhere else.

My father used to call it a glorified Toyota.

Jayhawk, getting him an S-Class within his price range will only make matters worse. Electrical problems, alongside piss-poor service.

Who, exactly, are we trying to save ...ml? "...Make matters worse." Stop sticking your finger in the cigarette lighter and find a new MB service provider! You'll feel a lot better in the morning...

Don't believe everything you think

Save him from visits to the dealer.

I realize this may be a Mercedes forum, and the Mercedes bias is here, but honestly, our advice affects everyone here on the forums.

He wants to get away from the problems, so you tell him to look for an S-Class? I'm a huge Mercedes fan and loyalist, everybody knows that, but I'm not about to let my pride and passion affect another person (financially).

Who exactly is "him," and why the hell do you think "my pride and passion will affect another person." I am at a loss...
