Cluster time/temp, radio readout

I have a 2002 E320 4matic wagon. The readout on the time and temp on the cluster and the readout on the radio are eratic. The temp is unreadable, the time usually works, the shifter block next to the time has missing "dots" and the display on the radio has a jumble of black lines and the station readout is the only thing that works. My mechanic said that someone jammed the cluster in and more than likely kinked it and messed up the circuit board. Before I buy a new cluster...Any suggestions?
