Question Porsche museum

I was in Stuttgart in 1977, and I visited the factory. Unfortunately, the tours had been temporarily suspended because they were preparing it for the "brand new" 928.

I met an American there who was the contact person for their European delivery program. If Porsche had a museum at the time, he did not mention it (but that was obviously almost 30 years ago). I would have gone to see it had I known about it.

I had no interest in Mercedes at the time, but I could kick myself today for not having gone to see theirs. Believe me, it is now on my "To do" list.

Nice photos-thanks for sharing! I noticed simular design elements in the Alabama museum and plant and the new one. I like the juxtapose of the Maybach 57 and the Smart. Do you remember whose burgany SL in the "celebs" section? It beside the Pope-mobile.

I'll be in Cologne in March, I'll try to schedule an extra day to visit the museum-I'm sure a train to Stutgart from Cologne won't be hard to find, is the museum near the town center?

Princess Diana had one. I'm pretty sure that one in the museum is hers.

That is most likely the Princess' car. It is metallic red, has RHD and British number plates.

Per Google, she took delivery of a metallic red $130,000 500SL on February 5, 1992, which was leased from Mercedes Benz UK.

However, she underwent extensive criticism for not "buying British" and in October 1992 she turned the car back in, and reverted to a pool of leased British cars that she and Prince Charles kept.

Facing mounds of personal problems, the British royal family was trying to achieve a sense of solidarity with their fellow countrymen. "During the time of recession" it was said that the Princess and Prince did not have a bottomless pit from which to draw money and had to tighten their belts like everyone else.

Another little item for your day. My avatar flipped a 300SL Gullwing in Spain. She lost it on a curve, mounted an embankment and rolled it twice before it came to rest on its roof.

That is correct..that SL belonged to Princess DI for a short time. It was a gift, but she returned it due to an uproar about her having a German car.

Yes, I remember that now- the uproaor over her driving a non Brit car. Ironic that she died in one as well. That SL probably has pretty low mileage since she had it for less than a year.

I see that the 140 S600 in the MB Museum has California plates and chromed wheels which MB has always disapproved. Tut tut.

It is suprising to me that Di's SL it isn't a AMG model. If I was Di I would be taking a page out of Dave Chapelle's book "I'm Rich BITCH!"

Some do, some don't, some will, some won't, but I might!
