ac not cold

Was wondering what might be wrong if the ac is blowing great but is not cold at all? This just happened yesterday and was ice cold and now nothing....Might it just be freon that I need? As far as I know I've never had it checked or replaced. Help! It's way hot in Alabama!!!! Thanks

when ac is not cold its usually due to the freon gas... but in this case, if it happened all of sudden, your gas might be leaking somewhere...

I'm not too sure hschadt, but if it suddenly went from ice cold to outdoor temperature, your system has certainly experienced a failure above and beyond a simple freon recharge. Is the compressor still functioning?

ok...so it appears that the compressor is fine and in good working order. Since it is a closed sysytem, there is still plenty of freon and there were no leaks according to the diagnostics. It looks as though it may be an expansion valve inside the dash that is not working properly. They say it will be a simple repair but they have to go in through the dash which is time consuming so it will be costly (labor)....UGH!!!! Has anyone ever heard of this?

Sure, expansion valves can fail. Don't be too upset -- it could have been a lot worse.
