Dr.Z Comercials

hey ive recently seen numerous comercials with dieter zetsche but in them he is always talking about chrysler. why has he not done a comercial for a new mercedes car? it seems as if nobody is buying from jeep, chrysler, dodge group that he has to make those comercials, is mercedes trying hard to sell chrysler cars? is the daimlerchrysler group doing well financially and is it BETTER or WORSE to sell chrysler and streamline mercedes operations?

Zetsche is the CEO of DaimlerChrysler as far as I know. Mercedes-Benz has a seperate CEO I believe.

2002 Mercedes-Benz ML320 (sold)
2011 Chrysler Town & Country
2008 Toyota Camry Hybrid
2003 Yamaha V-Star 650 Classic
2002 Jaguar X-Type 2.5

Daimler-Benz must have had a good reason to buy Chrysler. The only plausible explanation was to marry the best of both worlds. The design and engineering was to come from Germany, and the production "expertise" and perhaps marketing, from the USA.

I don't know what the long-term effects are going to be but so far, the value of DCX stock on the NYSE is improving. Please remember that this is the primary goal of any for-profit company and EPS - earnings per share.

Do they really care what the average consumer wants? Not really, as long as they continue to sell vehicles and remain profitable. The CEO, COO, CFO and board of directors want to keep their jobs, so they have to please their shareholders.

Sad but true...

Different audience. Just think who is the target market for DrZ's commercials and who buys MBs.

^^^^ Agreed -- a really nice piece of marketing.

In the Jeeps only as far as I know...those are the CDI diesels the Europeans have known for almost 10 years. Guess the Jeep Liberty already has one.
Chrysler sells the 300C in Europe with the 3.2 litre CDI engine - a quite popular combo over there.

IMO, the Dr Z commercials are trying to boost the sales of Chrysler cars by tying them to Daimler, thus insinuating a transfer of quality and reliability.
As for the Diesel issue, I think we will see a lot more of the European diesel engines (and yes, MB diesel engines in Chrysler vehicles) in North America once the mandated low sulphur diesel fuel is available. There will be a big marketing campaign to promote diesel engines as clean, efficient engines and not the dirty, polluting engines of the old smoky VW Rabbit days.
