[QUOTE=shingleback]IMO, the Dr Z commercials are trying to boost the sales of Chrysler cars by tying them to Daimler, thus insinuating a transfer of quality and reliability.

Exactly right. These commercials are brilliant, in my opinion. I think this is what they needed to do. I read in the Financial Times that they are trying to make the case that they are not really a US automaker any more....to distance themselves from the financial problems of Ford and GM in the minds of consumers.

Rumor has it that I still won't get a free SL for towing the company line, but since we're getting new leadership, why not give it a try? Ernst Lieb will head up Mercedes-Benz USA beginning September 1.

Lieb is 51, and currently runs DaimlerChrysler Australia/Pacific. He replaces Paul Halata. Halata is a 33-year Mercedes Benz employee and has been leading the US sales arm since 1999. Unlike heads of lessor marques, Halata, who is 55, will retire. I mean really, once you've been to the top, where else would one go?

U.S. sales of Mercedes Benz automobiles grew under Halata; from 189,437 in 1999 to 224,269 in 2005.

This is the second time Lieb has followed Halata into a job. Lieb took over Mercedes-Benz of Canada in 1985, when Halata was transferred to Europe.

Ernst, if you're reading this, and you really can't GIVE me the car, how about a very long term review? That might be even better. No taxes.

I personaly think that because Chrystler is married to Mercedes we should be happy for both sides of the comany to do well, Mercedes does there marketing as they see fit and that is a reason why people buy a mercedes. I own a Jeep and an M-B. and i am happy with them both.
