new style vs boxy style

All the benz up and until 2001, were boxy looked tanklike and their steering very lightly assisted, ....basically it was 100 % german teutonic look and feel

I am not un happy with the new designs, but just curious, do you think Mercedes will ever make cars like in the boxy style of the old w124 etc.? or is that style direction just dead?

yeh i too prefer the old boxy style benzes over the new curvier ones, i believe the old '99 s class looks better than then new s550, it seems to have more road presence, almost panzer-like, a classic it will remain my favorite mercedes design so far, but i think future design will be curvier not boxier

It's funny because Chrysler seems to be heading in the boxy direction with cars like the 300c. I too prefer the older boxy style. However I don't quite know what your getting at with regards to the steering. I find mine as light as a feather.

“Ein Mercedes soll immer wie ein Mercedes aussehen.”

“A Mercedes should always look like a Mercedes.”

Bruno Sacco, designer of the 126.

That has not been true for more then ten years and it will never be that way again, sadly.

Today:

“A Mercedes should always look like a Nissan.”

They are ok, they are nice cars. It's just that for me they are not really Mercedes Mercedes if you get what I mean.

Are you talking about the W140, or the W220?

I too like the boxy style much better.

My cars:

BLACK 1996 S500 (W140) - Sold

BURGUNDY 1989 560 SEL (W126) - Sold

Thats what I was getting at that the two brands are part of the same company group and that in alot of cases the Chrysler designs are borrowing Mercedes technology. Yet these two brands seem to have such different design approches.

It's "dead" to answer your question--won't be produced again. Why? Because MB has been there, done that, and was successful. No need to revive the classics, hence the same reason MB doesn't create retro cars unlike the new Mini Cooper, Beetle, etc. Those classics hold their own proudly, MB has to make new ones that will soon turn into classics once again.
