I like the boxy, and believe these are tomorrows collectables. Forcing me to consider this reinforces my desire to hold my head high and maintain my vehicals, I'm pissed I sold my 300d '84 for 1500. It only had 388000 miles! Have a good day.

Prior cars>1961-220s, 1973-280SL, 1980 240, 1984 300D (388,000)

Present cars> 1983 380SL, 1995 300 (commutor car)

Besides the style, the plastics in newer cars are of such poor quality it isn't worth the effort.

Might as well focus on the dynamics than try to conjure up images of the past.

92% of all people suck at math. I am a part of the 9% who don't.

Current Cars:
2008 ML320 CDI 4MATIC (W164) - Silver/Black
2008 C230 4MATIC (W204) - White/Black

Past Cars:
2002 E320 (W210) - Silver/Black - Sold due to rust

has the merger between chrysler and daimler-benz be beneficial or has it been slwoing business for mercedes? i think Dr. Z in his comercials is really trying to sell the shitty american chrysler cars, and jeep, dodge, etc i think mercedes should split form chrsyler and focus on promoting and developing its mercedes cars, Dieter Zetsche and DaimlerBenz should not WASTE anymore time with chrysler

Regarding whether the merger has been benificial for the MB brand, it may depend on whether you mean across the entire nine years since the merger, or whether you mean right now. Right now profits at MB are good. Quarterly operating profit at Mercedes Car Group (which includes Smart and Maybach) is $1.03 billion (807 million euros) as compared to $15.3 million (12 million euros) in the same quarter a year ago.

Things are different at the Chrysler group. This quarter's operating profit is at $64.9 million (51 million euros), versus where it was last year - $692.4 million (544 million euros).

Funny however as I recall the old Nissan's were boxy too, just thought I'd point that out. I personally like the new style. The only thing that bothers me is the quality issues, however I believe the quality is coming back. No, it isn't going to come back all in one day, but the new S550 feels very nice and well built, same with the W164 over the W163. I think the corporate office has learned two things, one, Jergen Schremp is a fuck off, two, fast profits now mean long hurt later. Hopefully they have realized that and am making effort to get the quality back. The other thing is that the interior design of Mercedes is still higher then any other car company IMO.

Someone on another forum pointed out something very interesting. Make a ton of money now, then use that money to invest into quality, etc..... Not sure if that would actually work though.

2002 Mercedes-Benz ML320 (sold)
2011 Chrysler Town & Country
2008 Toyota Camry Hybrid
2003 Yamaha V-Star 650 Classic

Off the top of my head:

1975+ rounded, flat panel cars (114/5, 116)

1980+ rounded cars (123, 107)

1985+ boxy/flat panel cars (124, 126, 201)

1990+ less boxy cars, more oval/rounded (140, 124 2nd gen, new 202)

1995+ curvy lines (202, 140 2nd gen, new 210)

2000+ curvy lines, new design cues (203, 220, 210)

2005+ pinched, edgy lines (R, B and new A and S class)

I believe BMW was the first to introduce the more rounded look of sedans from the E65/E66 7-Series, aka, high shoulder liines, pronounced wheel wells, huge butts. They're the ones who also pioneered the hopfmeister kink (sp?)

I dont mind the new looks of some of the sedans, I hated them as a matter of fact until I got used to them. The new C-class more than others because at the time I thought it was way too bold, but the more I look at it the more I like it, you can see the qaulity in them still, despite the rounded looks, and it really is quite appealing

The newest S-class I seem to like more and more, because it looks like a big strong bold car in pictures, I've only seen them once at the dealership and I didnt get a good look, so I cant really say anythingg about them in real life. As for the pronounced boot lid, I kinda love it, because it reminds me of the REALLY old cars, like in the 1930's when they had the actual TRUNK TRUNK as a trunk....(see picture). Clearly its not as defined, but...like Kraugs implied in some sense, bringing back a classic in its fullness, is not always right

As for the newest E-Class, I always thought it was beautiful, its lines are incredible. I just hate how the KIA Amanti tries to make them look
