That is because I waited 2 weeks so I could have a MB loaner instead of a bad PT Cruiser or worse.
Nothing like following an Infiniti G35 loaner in a PT Cruiser thinking DAMN, if I paid HALF look what I could be driving as a loaner!
Now, take a good look at my LS430. They drive out in a 2007 new car (never an entry level IS or ES) 42 miles to my house. They exchange keys with me and I take the new Lexus to the office and they take mine to change the oil. They bring it to my office serviced, and they even washed it for me. They swap keys again and take thier car back.
In fact, I have not seen the dealer since I bought my LS430 in 2005. I never have to go back. Not that the car is much more reliable. Lexus gets it: YOU have a LIFE and a COMPANY to run. Mercedes doesn't: We have a Company for you to support. It's not our meetings that can be missed to fix our problems.
Take a long look and think about it. IBM may have created the PC, but they can't sell any more can they?
That's why the Japanese make the most reliable cars in the world. The Germans in the 1990s just plummited.
Here's some eye candy for you guys. Look how majority of the top cars are Japanese, and Mercedes/BMW are below the industry average. It's been like this for a while.
Here're some more graphs somewhat related to reliability.
