HI, I have a 1998 C280 sport. And It does not have any good pull...

at all. Like for example. When I am driving it it is fine on the highway cause it seems geared for the highway but when I am doing stop and go driving and someone goes right by me and I can't even pass them or move cause I will hit the pedal to the floor my engine will get up to 7k but I will go hardly anywhere.

It is a sealed tranni so I can't check to see if fluid it low. So do you think I have a tranni problem? I bought it with 65k miles on it. And It needed like $1000 worth of work thoughout the 1-1/2 years I owned it, but I just feel it is too slow and does not get out of it's way when I have a car trying to pass me on the road.

If I ever raced this thing at a track it would have the suckist holeshot ever. I just want to know if all c280s are like this or is this just the cons of having a tiptronic tranni? The engine according to some sites says 194HP so the engine seems to have it in it to go somewhere...

Thanks a fast response would be great cause I am thinking of trading it in for a BMW. Or another Merc with a Stick so I don't have so much slipping.

One of the pitfalls of automatics-there always hunting. I demand my clutch

Is this a North American C280? I thought Merc only added Tiptronic (or was it called ManuMatic?) as of 2000 in North America?

92% of all people suck at math. I am a part of the 9% who don't.

Current Cars:
2008 ML320 CDI 4MATIC (W164) - Silver/Black
2008 C230 4MATIC (W204) - White/Black

Past Cars:
2002 E320 (W210) - Silver/Black - Sold due to rust

What's the max speed you reach with this problem? When you floor it what does it do? Do you drive in D4 or D5? Mine does double overdrive at 160 Km and 180 Km. The fastest i got is 230 Km with my 1999 C280 Sport Edition.

That's a relatively small engine, so you might be expecting too much. I thought my E320 was slow too, compared to the E430 I traded for it.

BUT, 194HP is not too shabby, and should have some "get up and go".

I would post this again on the forum specific for C280. People on this forum have everything between C230 and S600!

This happens when you just at 0-30mph. Just any city driving it is like this. I would have to floor it and I hit 7grand I will go no where for like another 4-5 secs.

My Euro C280 has 198 Hp. And it runs perfectly. A.Tech. Does you car vribrates at 30 mph? Does it change gears as you drive?

What's it do if you run it through the gears manually? I leased my wife a new three series BMW with the automatic and it's no speed queen either. I raced a chick in a new cobalt the other night stoplight to stoplight. Even in manual mode she got a shot on me and I couldn't pull her until third gear. After third I ran away from her but it was pretty embarrasing at first. My E320CDI will run circles around the 3.0 BMW.
Good Luck!
