BMW owner Converting =D

Morning Everyone.
Let me preface this by saying I am going on a 4 year BMW owner. I absolutely love my "Ultimate Driving Machines" but I am SERIOUSLY considering converting over to the wonderful world of MBZ.

Lil background:

I am predominantly an 80's car enthusiast. I love the vehicles of the 80's, they had amazing technology for the day, and I think it just takes an enthusiast to own one.

I've owned a 79 450SLC, 86 BMW 325e, and my current car, an 87 325I convertible (all 5spd except the MBZ)

My old roommate owned an ABSOUTLEY mint 85 190d 2.2 5spd. I have never, EVER seen such a nice car that had 80k on it, and was 20 years old.

So after Benz's have left their impressions on me, I think for my new car that I will purchase either this coming spring, or next fall will be a nice C230K.

If I understand it right, the C230K and 240 is the only benzo you can buy in a manual? (gotta have my clutch!)

Chrysler seems to of always had a superior build quality, and that too is seeming to beam thru as Mercedes has for many years. I have read a lot of reviews, and the BMW/MBZ race is never over. Someone will take over, someone else will take over.....classic German competitors

Do many of yall have experience behind the wheel of the later 3 series 5/6spd models? I am looking for how the C230K will stack up against a 325i as far as drivability, retention of value, maintenance etc.

The main thing I am looking for to get rid of the BMW over is the maintenance. Granted, if I didn't own an older car, it wouldn't be an issue. The C230K has ALWAYS caught my eye, and I am in a tossup over my next car between BMW and Mercedes, I just dunno where to go any more.

thoughts?

I was under the assumption Chrysler and MBZ shared designs? Such as the Crossfire, wasn't that a MBZ design??

I thought the Crossfire had the SLK230 engine in it??

SLK (R170) chassis.

MB quality as of late has been so-so. But they've been improving. Basically all German automakers have been so-so in the quality department.

The C230 is a nice car though. I'd get it, the reliability is kind of a hit and miss. Some will be a nightmare, some will be a dream.

The crossfile had the chassis of the old SLK I believe.

The Mercedes available with a manual are the C230, both the old supercharged inline-4 and the new NA V6, the old C240, the old C320, the new C350, the new SLK280 and SLK350.

I would personally not get a C240 or C320, both have lazier engines that aren't very preppy. I would go for a C230, supercharged I4 or NA V6, or the C350, and the SLKs too.

Well I will probably be buying in late 07, early 08 if I gradaute on time. So I'll be looking at 06/07 CPO's most likely.

I have noticed ALOT of german cars are hit and miss. Either there problem free, or there nothing but a nightmare.

I love the the C230's styling, I don't mind the NA V6 as pretty much any motor is a step up from my I6 in the E30 =]
