Porsches were hand-built
This thread reminds me of my old Porsche days. I had a '72 911T and a '76 911 Targa, both of which I truly loved - GREAT cars!
I visited the factory in Zuffenhausen (sp) in 1977. The tours were not running (damn it) because they were re-tooling to start making the 928.
Anyway, at THAT time, they were hand-built by teams, and it took each team 9 days per car to produce them.
I did meet the guy in charge of their european delivery program; an american from California who was also fluent in german. He is the one who told me about their manufacturing process.
