CD Changer

Someone has given me a CD Changer for a 1995 300 E. I have a 1993 300E. I understand that the equipment changed after 1993. Does anyone know if the 1995 changer can be installed in the 1993 car? Thanks

There was a big change in 93 where changers afterwards would not play well in the harness. I found the fastest, easiest fix was aftermarket head and iPod. It is less expensive, more tunes, better sound [by far] and more control.

The iPod is like getting a 500X Changer

First of all I don't think that there's E300 of 1995, last model from E300 was in 92. from 93 they introduced the E320 with M104-24 valves engine which ended in 97 (W210) after introducing the M112 engine.

Second the real difference happened in CD changers was in 99 sfter they introduced the fibre optic thing, before that it was all wired normally with normal copper wires, so I think it should work with out any problem if you have the OEM radio.

Good Luck

I purchased a used factory cd changer for a 98 e-320. Could someone tell me where in the trunk is is supposed to be mounted. Isn't all the wiring supposed to be there. What about the mounting screw holes, are the there? thanks

As you look in the trunk, it goes in the left well. You must remove the molded insert in that area to get at the wiring; the screw holes are on the ledge edge where you must lift up the carpet. Search the forums, I know there is a detailed description and pictures. If you have a '98 you must be aware that they changed from "regular" to fiber optic in mid-production, although I think all "true" '98s had fiber optic hook-ups.

Benzfam,

I think farsal confuses technilogical innovation with technical changes. I've been trying to figure out how to do what you're considering for a long time - and let me tell you that in terms of the 1991-93 systems they're certainly not "plug and play" compatable with the '94+ systems.

Some basic differences - in the older model the "head" unit is more of a "display" unit, with the tuner, amps etc. in the trunk, and the head unit acting like a remote control (& physical cassette tape player). The setup us entirely different in the 94+'s.

I'd do a search for this yourself, but the consensus seems to be that if you want to upgrade this system, start from scratch. Crutchfield, and some others sell/sold some conversion wiring for a 1991-93 190E, but it seems to be very MB model-specific (and out of stock).

I've come to the conclusion that (even installing a newer changer) jumping through all the hoops just to install an "old" technology isn't worth it, and I'd be better off to just figure out how to install a MP3 player, since I don't want to start over. First I'll have to get an MP3 player and hope that I can do it with copper!

Sorry, I haven't been pleased either.....Scott

Scott,

You might be right, but also sometimes what makes it different is the brand as well, as MB are using different brands like (Alpine, Becker) of course mixing between them won't work, so yes I agree with just go for a new technology.
