Traffic light timers

Do you have traffic light timers? Here in BKK they are very handy as some our red lights are extremely long. As long as you know the amount of time that you have to remain stopped you can use your time constructively. At some of the longer lights you have the opportunity to grab a meal at a street side food stall.

If you are on GREEN they also tell you how many seconds you have to clear the intersection.

But, remember in Thailand most drivers view these as rough guides. Many drivers blast through the reds even though it has said STOP 5 seconds before. And, many GREEN waiters pre-anticipate the GREEN by several seconds...so there is a strange overlap.

Is that 101 seconds, 1:01 minutes, or 10.1 seconds? We have them here, at some intersections, but I haven't seen one w/ more than 20 seconds on it.

Don't believe everything you think

The first time I ever saw one of these timed traffic lights was in 1981 in Kiev...then part of the USSR.
