ML 320 gas guage
With the key on and engine off, remove the fuse cover on the passenger side kick panel (turn the plastic screws), remove fuse number 5 and wait for 5 seconds, (get up and look at the cluster, all gauges should go down, including the fuel gauge), put the fuse back in. If your tank is reading over half tank, DO NOT PUT ANY GAS IN IT UNTIL IT HAS REACHED BELOW THE HALF TANK MARK.
This may work, and if it continues to have the same symptom, you will need to change the coding in the instrument cluster for the fuel sending unit from 'Normal' to 'Direct Sensor Value'. This can only be done with the dealer level Star Diagnostic Tool.
If you reside in my coverage are, I can help.
