Ground effect was started by Lotus in 78 or 79 in their (or better said 'under') F - 1 cars. It was later abolished by the F-1 governing body because of too high cornering speeds. It is channeling air in a way to create a vacuum under the car and increase downforce in multiples. I think the 959 Porsche had it.
