Blower motor dead

Hi everyone
I'm a newbie and yet I already have a question. My Benz is 1996 C220 and the blower motor has stopped working. I tapped the top of the dash board and it seemed to be going for a while but than it died soon after. Is there a quick and painless way to distinguish if blower motor regulator is dead or it is in fact the blower motor itself (before I start ripping everything apart).
I am very thankful for any help I get from the Benz Brotherhood.

Better to just take out the blower and check it on the bench. Change the filter while you are in there as if it is blocked it can cause the blower to overload.
Here is how to take it out ,it is not a big job;
Cheers, Geo.

i had this happen twice on my c 220 at 40 k miles and 82 k miles
mb could not find the fault for 3 days- i was advised to replace the blower regulator and both times this was the culprit-so start by checking this item-it seems to get fried in certain cars at about 40 k miles
