i have just bought our 2nd e 230 1996 model and it starts up fine even if a little lumpy, and she will idle fine but when floored it splutters and will only rev up to around 3500rpm and then it fluctuates between 3500-3800 with the foot flat down !! (in neutral on the drive way). i noticed whilst driving that it wasnt as spritely as it should be. any ideas ?? oh and sorry how do you turn off the ets/abs lights on the dash and is it an abs wheel sensor that needs replacing ? cheers for any help and once again, sorry for it being a problem question ! ps , i had no idea there was a merc forum !! excellent !

You might get better response if you posted in the forum for your car. To include the car mod. and location in your profile makes it easier to offer advise. On an older MB your symptoms could mean a dirty fuel filter. Disconnecting the battery for a short time can reset the computer (dash lights), and in my car I just clean the ABS contacts at the front wheels. Do you know the last time the sparkplugs, distributor cap & rotor, ignition wire set and air filter elements were changed (maybe EGR), or the oil and filter? Best of luck.
