S500 Limp Home

I just bought a 2000 S500 that was shifting perfect. Now all of a sudden it is stuck in limp home mode. I think that the kick dowm switch behind the gas petal has gone bad but I can't be sure. What else could it be........

The current mileage on your vehicle would be a factor here. Nonetheless, it may be your transmission shift module. The seal within the transmission shifter box has been known to disintegrate causing transmission fluid to leak into the unit. Another possibility is the lack of transmission fluid or a need to flush the transmission fluid. You may also have a loose wire which is not communicating with your ECU. In either case, a visit to the MB dealer or a reputable transmission shop may be in order. Good luck.
