If it's not wheel balance or alignment, I'd demand a replacement automobile for that lemon.

Yes, but even well balanced wheels, as seen from the machine are not always good. If the tyre (off course in an extreme case, the wheel) is not round, the balancing machine can make it perfectly balanced but it would still not work in the car.

This applies for "ordinary" balancing machines, most modern perhaps can detect the issue (but cannot fix it really).

(just to add, I'm sure Jayhawk would know more)

I know nothing about balance machines, but you make an excellent point about the tires possibly being "out-of-round." Therefore, I would also recommend that kkkarman tell the dealer to replace the tires or the car. BTW kkkarman, most S550s come w/ low performance Conti tires, but the AMG comes w/ great high performance Conti's. Which do you have? That might be the problem. I have heard others complain about the low performance Contis. Check out The Tire Rack for consumer satisfaction survey results on these and many other tires.

the dealer replaced all 4 tires. they took tires and rims off a another s550 and the shimmy in the steering wheel is still there. It was not as bad but still noticable.

Which Conti's do you have? Does your dealer realize there is a serious problem, and will he do the right thing for you? It sounds like there is something seriously wrong w/ your new car...

Please keep us posted. These are important issues for those of us on this board, and how they get handled or not handled is critical.
