Buyers Scam for 300SDL

Here's a twist on an old buying technique. An associate (in Canada) was trying to buy a very low mileage 300SDL (absolutely mint condition) posted on Ebay. The car was in California. After some back and forth, the buyer was leaning towards accepting a very decent offer (high teens), at any rate, another buyer who is in California, drops buy and looks at the car, during which he askes for a glass of water that the seller goes indoors to get. When the seller returns, the car suddenly does not start or run very well. The buyer gets a little negative and says he will call back with an offer. The seller opens the hood, closes up and goes immediatly to the dealership...voila...vacuum hoses disconnected and 1 actually cut to make the car seem worth less! At any rate, a quick repair was performed and unfortunately for my associate, a German showed up at the sellers door with cash and the deal was concluded. 89-SDL 300 with 47K--$20K (I think)
