A sad Day for MB fans....

I don't know if you any of read the NY times articles last week, saying that Toyota's sales are sky-rocketing and its soon to be No. 1 in the world. Usually, the do more than Chrysler, but whats a sad news for MB is that NOW recently Toyota as been PASSING Mercedes and Chrysler in sales which a record 1st since MB's sales are usually STROng.

I have 90' camry, I can vouch for this car as having the most zippy, smooth, refined engine of all the mercedes I have owned. Its reliable and stilll clicking at 140K like new, where as the same year, 300e at 140K loooks like its on its last legs.

IS THIS ANY SURPRISE ?

good product = will eventually win the long run.

poor quality , low - reliabilty product = lose in the long run.

Toyota wins in the reliability contents with MB.
In primitive car there is less, to go wrong, than in the advance one.
Than I heard from professionals, that Toyota has a policy of making "undercover recalls" meaning they fix something recommended by manufacturer without telling the owner.
So if you take the Toyota for oil change - who knows, maybe you'll drive off with new transmission?
Bottom line, MB is loosing on very expensive repairs.

I am not surprised that MB has been beaten by a japanese company. First off the japanese car companies have higher MPG cars that are more reliable than lets say the cobalt, the focus, and the dodge neon.

Toyotas are truly legends in many people's minds.

Had a Camry as a rental car once and it had the worst torque steer of any vehicle I'd ever driven, before or since.

Front-wheel drive is econobox stuff.

I'm not complaining. I've always been a fan of Toyota and their Lexus division. They have some pretty nice cars these days.

2011 Chrysler Town & Country
2008 Toyota Camry Hybrid
2003 Yamaha V-Star 650 Classic

Last year i had my MB in for service and i rented a 2004 Toyota Camry V6 from Avis Rent A Car with only 850 KM on it. What suprised me was the quick acceleration and the smooth ride. This was the first time driving a Toyota.

In comparison. The MB cars feels more heavy and more car. The Camry feels more comfort and lighter. In the Netherlands Antilles Toyota is No: 1 which means ever 10 cars 5 are Camry's. Even Police Patrol Cars are Camry both in Curacao and Aruba. Now Mercedes Benz reaching up the sales of Toyota here. We have allot of W203 C200K's and C200 Diesel.

For many years the Population is driving more Toyota's. Then Mitsubishi - Nissan - Subaru - Suzuki - Hyundai - Kia - Daewoo.

Why would you guys compare Toyota to MB?
I would compare Lexus to MB.
Lexus, though owned by Toyota, is totally different in its brand and comfort.
I have both a MB and a Lexus. Seriously, the Lexus is much more comfortable. I have the Lexus first and for a while I didn't realize how bumpy or how many pot holes on California's highway. I can also talk on the phone because it is so quiet inside. I got my MB later and now I need to drive around those bad spots. I would have to call people back because I can't hear them while I drive.
But I still like my MB. It looks good and is fun to drive.
