Braking causes dashlights to illuminate in W140

In my 1997 S320, depressing the brake pedal causes the dashlights and the light-bulb-out light to illuminate. I have 140,000 miles on the vehicle. This strange situation just began today. Any thoughts on the cause? Possibly a worn switch at the brake pedal?

Sounds like a possible corrosion in a lamp socket (rear brake light) causing a jumping of the circuit from the brake light portion into the parking light circuit back up into the dash lights. Your parking lights are probably coming on dimly at the same time. Take a look.

Thanks for the suggestion. I will investigate that possibility.

It turns out that I grabbed the wrong bulbs (from my kit). Once I installed the correct bulb, the problem was solved.

Thanks!
