1980 450slc

I ran across a 1980 450slc for about $1,000.00. I am tempted to purchase the car, it runs, all of the windows work, all the lights work, the a/c need a blower, and it would need a paint job, new interior, tune-up, belts, hoses, tires, wheels, maybe some of the exterior trim, etc… . I would use it as a daily driver or is this car that should be placed under a cover in a garage? I like the car I just want to make sure it’s worth the restoration. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

For budgetary considerations, I'd use the following numbers to help you decide if you want to bite off on this...

A/C blower- 250plus
Wheels----- 250ea
paint job--$2500
Tune-up---- 250 and up, depending on what and who
Tires------ 100plus ea
ext trim--- Look at http://www.germanstar.net , http://performanceproducts4benz.com , for ideas here.

You can make a reliable daily driver, but it aint gonna be no gas miser. Expect 'round town mpg in the LOW teens... As far as worth, depends on condition. Nice SLC's can be had for $10K Us dollars... Decent ones for half that much.

Sure money can be saved, and these numbers are just ideas from the many experiences posted here by owners of similar vintage vehicles. Your actual experience will vary.

Post pics, and look at the 107 forum. This forum is dedicated to the chassis designation to which the 280, 300, 350, 450, 380, 420, 500, and 560Sl's belong.

Where is it again that we are going... And why are we in a handbasket?
