Extended Warranty vs. Resale Value

Without trying to get into the pros and cons of extended warranty, I’m trying to get an opinion on just how much and extended warranty adds to the resale value of a newer car. For example a 05’ E55 with 3 years left on factory warranty: An extended warranty (bumper to bumper, $0 deductible, 3 additional years or 100k total miles) costs $3400 at this time. How much would it add or not add to the resale value 2 or 3 years from now? Any thoughts would be appreciated. Of course anyone buying a used car would prefer an extended warranty on the vehicle but at what additional price? Thanks

RE: Extended Warranty vs. Resale Value

Given the choice between two identical cars priced the same, of course I'd take the extended warranty one. However, that's unlikely to happen. I'd look for service records and find out how well the car has been cared for. If it's close, I might be willing to go a grand for the warranty depending on how much time/mileage was left. Would never buy one myself, but wouldn't turn down a car that had one.

RE: Extended Warranty vs. Resale Value

I think you are unlikely to get much back on resale - most folks looking for a used vehicle look mostly at price - if there is warranty left that is gravy, but price is going to drive the sale.

RE: Extended Warranty vs. Resale Value

Extended warranties don't cover the stuff that mostly happens on the car.
Supposable they cover major failure, but I am not looking into checking it out.
I would say the warranty gives potential buyer piece of confidence, but that kind of short therm insurance can be both for very little money.
My friend dealing with used cars buys it for every vehicle he sells. For $150 gets him covered in case something would go wrong with the vehicle.
