RE: Daimler Benz 560SL
We used to drive a Daimler.
When I lived in the UK they would take Jag XJ saloons and dress them up a bit and call them Daimlers.
The company car is a big perk in the UK to allow good earning folks a nice car without having to earn the extra money to buy it only to be nailed on the income tax side.
Ours was a Daimler Double Six, which was Jag XJ 12 saloon with Daimler badges and some minor interior upgrades.
Putting aside the basic Jag headaches the car drove very well. It was very fast. It was still pulling hard at 140mph when I lifted off the throttle.
I got my UK license in that car at 17 years old. The car would get strange looks because there were not many Double Six Daimlers with a big red L on the back. The red L designated newbie driver to warn people that the driver did not have a great deal of experience. A pretty good idea for safety.
